I too love the expressionists,...Very nice article. I too love the expressionists, especially Kokoshka for his colors and exaggeration, but there are very few figure painters I don't like. The gestalt of Freud's work has always impressed me, the shapes, the beautiful brush work and paint application. The soft quality against explicit lighting -- all of this wrapped in a subtle tonality.
