This is quite catching to me! I love it. Isn't it amazing how something grabs you and won't let go. I never have words to describe why it is that certain images do that to me but they certainly do. I think I am particularly drawn (ha!) to expressions. My favorite painting is The Girl with the Pearl Earring and my second favorite painting I can't remember the name to (would have to look it up) but it's in the Louvre and it's a beautiful environment but there's a face underwater that just won't let me look away. I must get caught in the eyes or something. Anyway, rambling... :)
Thanks Rachel! I'm glad you dig it. Here's a pretty famous pre-raphaelite painting of a girl under water, Ophelia in this case: http://donotdestroy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/millais_-_ophelia.jpg
Maybe that's the one you mean? But I like The Girl With The Pearl Earing, too. Vermeer was an amazing painter. I would love to see one of his paintings in person one day!
Thanks, Jed! I had not seen that painting but it's pretty eye-catching. Someday I will dig out my small pile of papers from my Paris visit and find the painting in my Louvre map. I made notes on it because I'm terrible at remembering this type of thing. :)
Living in the Netherlands, I was able to see much of Vermeer's work. I visited The Girl several times and spent a lot of time sitting on the divan opposite her wall and staring.

Did you find it? I am looking for the name of that painting too.. it was in the room just before the room with monalisa. I lost all my louvre maps.
